Deep in Cape Le Grand National Park, Hellfire Bay earns its dramatic name with dramatic beauty — a perfect arc of brilliant white sand held between granite headlands, with water so vividly blue it barely seems possible. Wilder and quieter than its famous neighbour Lucky Bay, and every bit as stunning.

Lucky Bay gets the caravan queue; Hellfire, a few minutes further into the park, often gets left alone — which suits it perfectly. The bay is tighter, the granite headlands sit closer, and the same electric Esperance blues arrive with half the audience. Frenchman Peak rises behind it, one of the great short climbs in the state.

Personally shot by Western Australian aerial photographer Matthew Philip on a DJI Mavic 4 Pro. The drone's 100MP Hasselblad camera holds the granite texture, the blinding sand and the electric water in balanced, razor-sharp detail at every print size — balancing extremes that would flatten a lesser sensor.

I flew from the headland and framed the full curve, granite to granite, with Frenchman Peak rising behind — one of the great short climbs in the state if you have the legs for it.

The 100MP Hasselblad on the Mavic 4 Pro balanced the blinding sand against the deep water without losing either. The name promises drama and the bay delivers it — just the beautiful kind.
