Hidden inside Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve east of Albany, Little Beach is regularly named among the most beautiful beaches in Australia — a perfect crescent of squeaky white sand framed by ancient granite boulders, with water that shifts from glass-clear to deep southern blue. This aerial photograph captures all of it in one extraordinary frame.

The reserve around it is globally significant. Two Peoples Bay is where Gilbert's Potoroo — once believed extinct for over a century — was rediscovered in 1994, making it home to one of the rarest mammals on earth. The noisy scrub-bird was found here too. This is not just a pretty beach; it is one of the most important conservation sites in Australia.

Little Beach does not ease you in. You drive out from Albany into Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve, walk over the granite, and suddenly it is all there at once — that impossible white crescent, boulders standing guard at each end, water so clear the rocks seem to float.

What most visitors do not realise is how significant this reserve is. Gilbert's Potoroo — thought extinct for over a century — was rediscovered here in 1994, which makes this bush home to one of the rarest mammals on earth.

I put the drone up from the headland and this is what came back.
