Aerial photography of Maggies Beach stripped back to its essentials — pale sand, gentle turquoise-fringed swell and an overcast sky filling the frame. No buildings, no headland, just the beach and the water it's known for.

This quieter stretch of the Tweed Coast runs roughly two and a half kilometres from Norries Headland south toward Hastings Point and the Cudgera Creek mouth. Exposed and open, it's less sheltered than Cabarita next door, which is part of what keeps it uncrowded.

This is the plain, honest version of Maggies Beach — no headland, no landmark, just sand and water under a grey sky. I almost skipped flying it given the flat light, but there's something about the tonal range that morning I couldn't pass up. It's the calmest image from the whole Tweed Coast session, and it's grown on me more than I expected since.
