About The Location

Some of my favourite Rottnest frames have no beach in them at all. Flying the coastline, I kept getting pulled out over the reef — straight down, the coral platforms and seagrass meadows turn into incredible organic patterns, like marbled ink under turquoise glass.

What most people do not realise is that Rottnest sits at a genuine biological crossroads. The warm Leeuwin Current carries tropical coral this far south, making these the southernmost coral reefs on the WA coast. Tropical reef at a latitude it has no business being at.
