Paihia Beach Canvas Art — Bay of Islands, New Zealand

Paihia is the gateway to New Zealand's Bay of Islands, where 144 islands are scattered across a sheltered bay in the heart of Northland. This aerial photograph captures the beach from above, its calm curve opening onto that island-dotted blue with boats sitting at anchor.

There is serious history in this water. Just north of the beach sit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where the Treaty of Waitangi — New Zealand's founding document — was signed in 1840. Across the bay lies Russell, the country's first capital. You are looking at the birthplace of modern New Zealand.

Personally shot by Australian aerial photographer Matthew Philip on a DJI Mavic 4 Pro. The challenge here is depth — island behind island, fading toward the horizon — and the drone's 100MP Hasselblad camera keeps the far layers legible instead of letting them dissolve into haze.

I flew from the beach out over the anchored boats and the frame just kept layering — island behind island fading toward the horizon. The 100MP Hasselblad on the Mavic 4 Pro held that depth beautifully.
