Palm Beach Creek Canvas Print — Gold Coast, Queensland

The creek mouth at Palm Beach opens into a wide sandy basin, framed by green headland with the bridge crossing behind. Bush-covered hills, pale sand banks and water the colour of jade — a softer, greener side of the Gold Coast than its beaches usually get credit for.

Palm Beach is bookended by two creeks: Tallebudgera at the northern end and Currumbin at the southern. Both are legendary swimming spots — calm, shallow and clear — and they're where Gold Coast families actually take small children while the surf does its thing a few hundred metres away.

Personally shot by Australian aerial photographer Matthew Philip on a DJI Mavic 4 Pro. Green bush and jade water in one frame is a difficult combination to print — the two fight each other and one usually goes lurid. The drone's 100MP Hasselblad camera holds both honestly, along with the sandbank patterns beneath the surface.
