Palm Beach Aerial Wall Art — Gold Coast, Queensland

The sandbar at Palm Beach curls back on itself, leaving a shallow lagoon of still water trapped behind the break. The tide had drawn the sand into a long hook, and from above the whole shape reads clearly in a way it never does from the ground.

This is the single best argument for aerial photography. Stand on the beach and you'd see a bit of calm water and think nothing of it. Fifty metres up and it becomes a piece of natural design — a curved bar, a trapped lagoon, and the pattern the ocean drew overnight.

Personally shot by Australian aerial photographer Matthew Philip on a DJI Mavic 4 Pro. Sandbar formations like this are completely temporary — a few tides and this shape is gone forever. The drone's 100MP Hasselblad camera captured it in detail sharp enough to hold at large canvas sizes.
