Bathurst Lighthouse standing white on its point, Pinky Beach curving in behind it, and the reef running out into deep blue. The boardwalk cuts across the foreground with cyclists on it — which is about as Rottnest as an image gets. Everyone who has done the loop has walked or ridden that exact path.

That detail is what makes this frame land. Rottnest has no cars; the island runs entirely on bikes, and this stretch between the settlement and the lighthouse is one of the first legs of the loop nearly every visitor rides. Below it sits Pinky's Beach Club, where the same riders end up for a drink at sunset.

There are no cars on this island. Everything happens on a bike, and this stretch between the settlement and the lighthouse is one of the first legs of the loop almost everybody rides. I waited for people to be on it rather than shooting it empty.
