Snapper Rocks Canvas Wall Art — Coolangatta, Queensland

Aerial photography of the Snapper Rocks headland, where the rock point pushes out into the Pacific and whitewater wraps around it in a wide arc. The Coolangatta skyline rises behind the green headland, with the beach curving away on the far side.

This is the start of the Superbank, a two-kilometre stretch of sandbank surf that runs from here through Rainbow Bay, Greenmount and on to Kirra. Since the Tweed River sand bypass system began pumping sand north in the 1990s, this stretch has produced some of the most consistent, rideable waves in the world.

About The Location

Snapper Rocks sits right on the Queensland side of Point Danger, and it's the start of the Superbank — one of the most famous stretches of sandbank surf anywhere. I flew this on a clean morning with the Mavic 4 Pro, holding the headland, the whitewater wrapping the point and the Coolangatta skyline all in one frame. It's a spot that means a lot to a lot of surfers, and from directly above you can finally see the whole shape of why the wave works the way it does.
