Off Wharton Beach, the ocean itself is the artwork — Esperance water in its purest form, running from glass-clear over white sand through every turquoise and teal to deep Southern Ocean blue. This aerial photograph turns away from the beach entirely and studies that water: its gradients, textures and impossible clarity.

Off the beach here the sea runs through a complete spectrum — transparent over the sandbars, then turquoise, then teal, then serious navy — and every shade is doing something different with the light.
